A MESSAGE FROM OUR ASSOCIATE PASTOR

Hello Members and Friends of PCCT:

As we prepare to return to New Orleans in June, we are grateful once again for the overwhelming support and encouragement from our congregation and friends.

Due to your generosity, we were able to raise over $13,000 at our Goods and Services Auction on April 13th.  All the proceeds will go towards our expenses and ministries serving the people and community of New Orleans.  Last year, in addition to our labor and time, we were able to donate $9,500 to three charities: New Orleans Habitat for Humanity, RHINO (Rebuilding Hope in New Orleans), and Mobile Loaves and Fishes.  We hope to increase our generosity this year.

During the week of June 22nd-28th, 54 people (32 youth and 22 adults) will be going to New Orleans.  Some of us will work with Project Homecoming, a ministry of the Presbytery of South Louisiana and the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, which is committed to rebuilding homes devastated by the hurricanes that belong to families who are low-income, uninsured, under-insured, elderly, and disabled.  Others of us will work with Project Restore Ferry Place, a ministry of the St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church and New Orleans Habitat for Humanity, which is helping to revitalize a forgotten and broken New Orleans neighborhood by building fourteen homes along the block of Ferry Place.

We will meet together in the evenings, for meals, fellowship, reflection, and worship.  The theme for this year’s trip is the Prayer of St. Francis:

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;

where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,

grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

to be understood, as to understand;

to be loved, as to love;

for it is in giving that we receive,

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Amen.

Please hold us in your prayers as we seek to serve our brothers and sisters, deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ, and live into the deep wisdom of this prayer.

Serving Christ with you,

Rev. Marc Oehler
